May
Fellow Members:
May was a very busy and productive month for club events this year. We had a full house at the 120 club grand finale dinner where everyone seemed to have a great time and Bud Atwood took home the $1,000.00 grand prize. The next session of our membership raffle starts the first week of July. At present, the tickets seem to be sold out once again.
The Kid’s Derby at Minkler’s pond was another tremendous success. Once again, we thank Tim & Nancy Minkler for their outstanding hospitality. Tim also organized and operated the Spring Fishing Derby at the Stockbridge Bowl where 93 anglers signed up with the following $100 winners: Mark White, Stockbridge, Lg. Brook Trout, 2 lbs.14 oz., Jordon Wadsworth, Lee, Lg. Pickerel, 2 lbs. 14.5 oz., Molly O’Dowd, North Adams, Lg. Bass, 4 lbs, 9 oz., lg Bullhead, Chris Garrity from Pittsfield at 1 lb, 5 oz. The raffle winners: $300, Keith Mackie from Becket, $200, Bill Dunn from Lenox and $100, Mark White from Stockbridge. Thanks go out to all club members who responded to our plea asking for an increased participation in returning the raffle tickets. We had a nearly 50% increase over last year’s ticket sales!
The Traditional Archery Shoot once again was a success with 115 competitors using their traditional equipment. When the rains came Friday night it looked like we were in for another dismal weekend. But, Saturday morning dawned sunny and mild and the weather held through mid-day Sunday allowing the archers to stay relatively dry this year. Thanks go out to Tom Philips and his crew for doing another fine job. Discussion is being made considering moving the Traditional Shoot away from the Spring Derby date to avoid conflicts. The Summer Archery League is commencing with outdoor shooting on Wednesday evenings, open to all.
The following officers and board members were elected at the Annual Meeting in April. Pres. Wayne Slosek, 1st VP Mike Buffoni, 2nd VP Marc Fadding, Treas. Bonnie Buffoni, Sec George Chasse, Board Members Vic Borghi, John Mange, Tim Minkler, Tom Race, John Cardillo and Jeff St. John. Our thanks go to Jim Balfanz and Joan Borghi for their many years of dedicated service to the club as they step down from their positions of Treasurer and Secretary respectively. We also voted in 5 new memberships at that meeting. Please remember we are asking each member to sponsor at least 1 new member during our new membership drive and that we have reduced the initiation fee by 50% ($30) for the duration of this drive.
The horseshoe league is up and running with openings for 2 additional pitchers. They meet Thursday evenings starting around 6. If you are interested please stop by any Thursday night to sign up. The league runs for 16 weeks and seems to be a very pleasant and enjoyable outing.
A skeet committee meeting is being called for Sunday, June 2nd at 11 am by skeet co-chairmen Gregg Charbonneau and Gary Johnston. We are shooting every Tuesday evenings and Sunday mornings at present. Skeet instruction is available for members. All skeet shooters please remember the first leg of the Annual Tri Club Skeet Shooting Competition takes place Sunday, June 29th at the Sheffield cub from 9 am-1 pm. Please make an effort to attend and to help us defend our title which we have held for the last 3 years. We will be hosting the 2nd leg on Sunday, July 27 with the finale will be at Lee on Aug. 24.
